If you know me well, you might know a few things about me.
You might know that I challenged my dad to put an audio recorder with a long-lasting battery in the wall of the room where we had a piano and I improvised almost every day, and then spice up my compositions with an automatic production program, and he may have done that based on some of the songs on YouTube. One of them is Eastern Spirit - Falling Stars, of which I remember composing the main melody and may have played some of the background theme of on the piano.
You might know that I was reading collapse theory blogs almost every day for several years while in college after getting into global warming, the term I still ideally prefer to use over “climate change,” and later peak oil. Every civilization thay has ever existed is believed to have declined and fallen according to an approximately 300-year cycle that is often believed to be an inviolable law of social science, but few want to hear it. Isn’t it a lack of faith to believe that our current global civilization will ever collapse? If the world operates according to physical laws, then peak oil is a concern. I stopped reading collapse material when I read a post (the link to which I did not save) that predicted degrowth shocks would keep the price of oil low indefinitely with a relatively low amount of pain in combination with a war on Iran. I forget what it predicted for renewables, since I have always been a bit of a skeptic that the economy could be fully transitioned to renewables at its historical size since baseload energy capacity is a very difficult issue to solve with renewables. It would be nice to believe that hydrocarbons are some kind of unlimited resource given to langue d’oil speakers by God, but I ultimately decided that I would be able to survive if peak oil is the truth. I’m still not sure whether gas prices I saw on the road yesterday on one of my car rides are a real physical commodity that might have been affected by my sharing the article or if it’s some kind of virtual reality.
You might also know that I’ve struggled with not being a member of the U.S. military and its effect on my status. In particular, I’ve had a bit of a problem with a lurking affinity for white nationalism in its plain language meaning due to being a member of the oldest White family in the U.S.. At times, I’ve had a hard time believing that there are actually things called wars in which armies kill each other with things called weapons, and specifically that the Allies killed a few million German soldiers about 80 years ago, when I could trace a somewhat close cousin relationship with removal with a couple. I thought the human species would have evolved global cooperation at some time in the past. I stand 100% against Nazism and neo-Nazism.
Eastern Spirit looks possibly a bit Iranian, although I seem to remember daring my dad to make that song by an Iranian-seeming artist, because people would periodically accuse me of enemy sympathies and we didn’t have a declared war with them. I apologize to my friends in the U.S. military for listening to a song with enemy influences, and I apologize for potentially influencing policy by having sent it to a few people. However, this song is hard to resist, and I don’t think Iran actually had anything to do with its production, unless there is a different metaphysical theory on offer. I have read that we offered taking their oil as a rationale for the Iran War, and while I am pretty into free markets, if peak oil is real then we want to have control over as much oil as possible on as favorable terms as possible and ration it.
